Ben Sprecher founded
The Sprecher Organization
in 1997. He is in the business of operating and
booking theatres as well as acting as an independent
theatrical producer and general manager on Broadway,
Off-Broadway, nationally and internationally. As
CEO, Mr. Sprecher is responsible for the development
and production of all projects emanating from
The Sprecher Organization.
His responsibilities include the identification and
selection of shows to produce, the overall financing
and economic structure of those shows, and the
hiring of creative personnel, including directors,
actors and designers for each production. He
supervises in-house General Managers and other
support personnel with regards to staffing, booking,
and weekly operations management for all
productions. During this period, Mr. Sprecher has
produced a number of works including: Eugene
O’Neil’s MOON FOR THE MISBEGOTTEN starring Eve Best,
Kevin Spacey and Colm Meaney, James Kirkwood’s
comedy LEGENDS! starring Joan Collins and Linda
Evans, the Broadway revival of Neil Simon’s THE ODD
COUPLE starring Nathan Lane and Mathew Broderick;
the Tony award-winning Broadway production of
FORTUNES’S FOOL starring Alan Bates and Frank
Langella; Larry Gelbart’s hit Broadway comedy SLY
FOX starring Richard Dreyfuss and Eric Stoltz; the
Tony award winning production of Hal Holbrook’s MARK
TWAIN TONIGHT and the Broadway thriller VOICES IN
THE DARK starring Judith Ivey. Currently in
development include a new musical entitled PRAIRIE
based on the literary classic books of Laura Ingalls
Wilder, with book by Beth Henley and music by Rachel
Portman and the musical REBECCA based on the classic
novel by Daphne Du Maurier, both to be directed by
Francesca Zambello. In addition, Mr. Sprecher is
responsible for the booking and ongoing operation of
New York’s premier commercial Off-Broadway Theatre,
The Little Shubert, located on 42nd Street. He is
responsible for creating or identifying suitable
productions for presentation at that Theatre as well
as overseeing its day to day operation.
Prior to the creation of
The Sprecher Organization, Mr. Sprecher
was at the center of Off-Broadway. He reconstructed
and operated the Theatre de Lys (now known as the
Lucille Lortel Theatre) from 1981 until 1999. In
1982, he built and began operating the Promenade
Theatre which was in continuous operation until
2006. In 1992, he built and began operating the
Variety Arts Theatre which was in continuous
operation until 2005. With the Shubert Organization,
he was integral in construction of the Little
Shubert Theatre which opened in 2004 and is
currently in operation. During this period,
productions Mr. Sprecher was responsible for
include: the Pulitzer prize winning production of
Edward Albee’s THREE TALL WOMAN; Steve Martin’s
PICASSO AT LAPIN AGILE; Terrence McNalley’s LISBON
TRAVIATA; Stephen Sondheim’s PACIFIC OVERTURES; the
original production of David Rabe’s HURLYBURLY
directed by Mike Nichols; London’s Best Musical
Award winner RETURN TO THE FORBIDDEN PLANET; the
Pulitzer prize winning production of DINNER WITH
FRIENDS; DEATH DEFYING ACTS by Woody Allen, Elaine
May and David Mamet; the original productions of
Robert Harling’s STEEL MAGNOLIAS, Carol Churchill’s
CLOUD 9 and Wendy Wasserstein’s ISN’T IT ROMATIC;
the presentation of Tommy Tune’s WHITE TIE AND TAILS
and the New York premier of the musical FAME.
As an independent, Mr. Sprecher produced the
National Tour of Cole Porter’s ANYTHING GOES
starring Mitzi Gaynor, and the original New York
productions of: the musical ANNIE WARBUCKS; Elaine
May’s ADULT ENTERTAINMENT starring Danny Aiello; the
Canadian Smash TWO PIANOS, FOUR HANDS; MADAME
MELVILLE starring Macaulay Culkin and Jolie
Richardson; Yazmina Reza’s UNEXPECTED MAN starring
Alan Bates and Dame Eileen Atkinson; Neil LaBute’s
THE SHAPE OF THINGS starring Rachel Weitz and Paul
Rudd and MR GOLDWYN starring Alan King.
After opening the first Equity Dinner Theatre in San
Diego, he came to New York in 1976 as the Production
Stage Manager for the Broadway musical SHE LOVES ME
starring Madeline Kahn and Rita Moreno. Mr. Sprecher
began his career as the lighting designer for the
1974 world tour of EARTH WIND AND FIRE.
Mr. Sprecher is an alumnus of California State
University of Northridge. He is a member of the
League of American Theatres and Producers. He served
as Vice President of the League of Off Broadway
Theatres and Producers for fifteen years. He was the
Vice President of the Players Club for seven years.
He currently serves as a trustee for the League of
American Theatres and Producers ATPAM pension and
welfare funds. For 12 years, he was chief negotiator
for the League of Off-Broadway Theatres and
Producers for the collective bargaining agreements
covering ATPAM, SSD&C as well participating in the
negotiation of the agreement for Actor’s EQUITY. He
continues to serve on these committees as well as
the negotiating committees for the Broadway
contracts of those same unions. His shows have
received two Tony awards, two Pulitzer prizes,
eleven New York Drama Critics awards, fourteen Outer
Critic Circle Awards, five Lucille Lortel Awards and
numerous Obie Awards.

MARY MILLER,
General Manager / Comptroller - Theatre Operations,
has been with The
Sprecher Organization since
its inception in March of 2000. Along with the
financial supervision of all projects emanating
from The
Sprecher Organization,
she is responsible for the daily management of
the PROMENADE THEATRE, the VARIETY ARTS THEATRE,
and the LITTLE SHUBERT THEATRE. In addition to
her financial responsibilities, she is also charged
with overseeing all personnel including Technical
Supervisors, House Managers, Box Office personnel,
and all other theatre employees.
Prior to joining The
Sprecher Organization,
Ms. Miller fulfilled the same duties for Fox Theatricals
in Chicago. Her other facilities experience includes
booking coordinator for The Annenberg Center for
the Performing Arts and events manager for The
Ambler Music Festival, both in Philadelphia. Additionally
Ms. Miller has over fifteen years experience as
a Company Manager in New York City and on the
road, handling productions such as ASPECTS OF
LOVE, ME AND MY GIRL, LES MISERABLES, THE PHANTOM
OF THE OPERA, MISS SAIGON, and SHOWBOAT.

PETER BOGYO, General Manager /
Productions, has been with The
Sprecher Organization
since inception. Most recently, he was
responsible as General Manager of the Broadway
revival of Eugene O’Neill’s A MOON FOR THE
MISBEGOTTEN, starring two-time Academy Award
winner Kevin Spacey and Eve Best, the most
successful production of this play in its
history. On Broadway he has also general managed
SLY FOX, starring Richard Dreyfuss and Eric
Stoltz, FORTUNE'S FOOL, with Alan Bates and
Frank Langella, and VOICES IN THE DARK, starring
two-time Tony winner Judith Ivey, all of which
were co-produced by The
Sprecher Organization.
Off-Broadway, his general manager credits
include Elaine May's ADULT ENTERTAINMENT,
starring Danny Aiello and Jeannie Berlin, MR.
GOLDWYN, starring Alan King, MADAME MELVILLE
starring Macaulay Culkin and Joely Richardson,
and THE UNEXPECTED MAN, starring Alan Bates and
Eileen Atkins, all of which were co-produced by The
Sprecher Organization.
Independently he was the General Manager for A
MOTHER, A DAUGHTER AND A GUN, starring Olympia
Dukakis, and Jerry Herman's SHOWTUNES. As a
former Company Manager, Peter managed numerous
shows in New York - on Broadway: Alfred Uhry's
THE LAST NIGHT OF BALLYHOO (Tony award for Best
Play), Alan Ayckbourne's A SMALL FAMILY
BUSINESS, Timberlake Wertenbaker's OUR COUNTRY'S
GOOD, SWINGING ON A STAR, CRAZY HE CALLS ME,
MIXED EMOTIONS, A LITTLE MORE MAGIC, and THREE
FROM BROOKLYN; off Broadway: STEEL MAGNOLIAS,
PENN & TELLER ROT IN HELL, STRIP, ENO and LIFE
ON THE THIRD RAIL. On Broadway, Peter served as
Associate Producer for STARMITES, nominated for
6 Tony Awards. Peter is also a leading producer
of benefit concerts, and has helped raise well
over a million dollars in the fight against
AIDS. For Gay Men’s Health Crisis he produced 3
celebrated benefit concerts- at Carnegie Hall:
Stephen Sondheim and Arthur Laurents's ANYONE
CAN WHISTLE, starring Scott Bakula, Madeline
Kahn, Bernadette Peters, and Angela Lansbury,
and directed by Herbert Ross (recorded by
Columbia Records and nominated for a Grammy
award), and Cole Porter and Moss Hart's JUBILEE,
starring Bea Arthur, Tyne Daly, Sandy Duncan,
Michael Jeter, Bob Paris, Alice Ripley, Stephen
Spinella, and Damian Woetzel, and, at Lincoln
Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, SHOWSTOPPERS,
starring Carol Lawrence, Robert Morse, Chita
Rivera, Jerry Orbach, Andrea McArdle, Brian
Stokes Mitchell, Priscilla Lopez, George Hearn
and Colm Wilkinson. Peter also produced the
benefit concert FIRST LADIES OF SONG at Alice
Tully Hall for the Eleanor Roosevelt Monument
Fund, an evening featuring Rosemary Clooney,
Barbara Cook, Judy Collins, Kitty Carlisle Hart,
Lena Horne, Marilyn Horne, Shirley Verrett,
Julie Wilson, Joanne Woodward with special guest
speaker Hillary Rodham Clinton. Peter has
unveiled three monuments for the City of New
York, honoring Eleanor Roosevelt, Duke
Ellington, and Antonin Dvorak, and produced a
memorial tribute to Herbert Ross at the Majestic
Theatre. Peter is a member of The League of
American Theaters and Producers and ATPAM, a
Tony Award voter, and a proud graduate of Yale
College and the Commercial Theater Institute's
14-week program.
